029 | Race, Justice, and Diversity: Using Emotional Intelligence, Relational Wisdom, and Worldview Assessment to Improve Practice

Psychologists, other licensed mental health professionals, and medical professionals face significant challenges in responding effectively to issues of race, justice, and diversity in the context of increasing political polarization while seeking to support and empower clients who are ethnic minorities. In this workshop, participants will learn how principles of Emotional Intelligence (Currie & Currie, 2022; Herland, 2022; Matthews, 2022) and Relational Wisdom (Sande, 2004) can be used to effectively work with clients and issues in areas of race, justice, and diversity. In addition, participants will learn about the importance of understanding and assessing client worldviews when engaging clients in areas of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) to improve cultural humility and identify opportunities for reconciliation and understanding (Bouma, Halafoff & Barton, 2022; Chege et al., 2022; Van Tongeren et al., 2020). Finally, Christian mental health and medical professionals will learn a framework based on biblical principles for supporting the integration of emotional intelligence and worldview assessment in practice.
